Pyramid offers unique educational programs in which
professional artists bring the arts of papermaking, printmaking, and the
book to K-12 classrooms and other educational venues throughout Maryland,
Virginia, and Washington, DC:
K-12 Educational Programs
- Papermaking in the Schools
Master papermakers bring papermaking to K-12 classrooms throughout the
Washington, DC metro area. The rich history of papermaking and its roots
in Asian and Western cultures come alive in hands-on workshops in which
students learn how to make various kinds of paper and teachers discover
ways to integrate the history and process of hand-made paper into classroom
curriculum.
- Making Connections Program for
High School Students
Making Connections brings aspiring young artists from high schools
in Washington, DC and Maryland together with professional artists in
an intensive five-day learning experience at the Pyramid Atlantic studios.
Now in its eighth year, Making Connections allows high school students
to explore writing and image making with master teachers through papermaking,
printmaking, and book arts. Fifteen full-scholarship students experiment
with various printmaking processes, make a series of prints, develop
and complete written pieces, completing a hand-bound book during the
week. The program culminates with an exhibition of student work and
a public presentation.
- Professional Development for Teachers
Making Connections: Reading as Process, Art as Content is a professional
development program accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education
that provides teachers with six required reading credits. The twelve-day
studio program is taught by professional artists and educators and concentrates
on the incorporation of reading and writing in the studio classroom
through hand papermaking, printmaking, digital media, and book arts.
