A Virtual Workshop!

Cyanotype, a ferro-prussiate process, is a photographic process known for its blue color. It was famously used by a pioneer in photography, Anna Atkin, who is often coined the first female photographer. Students will learn the history, chemistry mixing, and coating techniques for making their own cyanotypes. Welcome to both beginners and those looking to get a refresher/refine skill set.

Students are encouraged to consider and collect objects and materials in advance for creating their photograms, including black and white negatives (film or digital negatives), botanical objects, stencils, and other small objects.

Registration closes October 9, 2020 to allow time for students to purchase their materials. With your registration you'll receive the full materials list (with helpful links) to purchase your items, any helpful handouts about the process, as well as a quick 1-page "how-to" on downloading and using the Zoom video app.

PLEASE NOTE: All workshops will be recorded for Pyramid Atlantic's private use to better optimize our programming and share as examples for funders. You may mute your microphone or turn off your camera if you do not wish to be recorded.

Eliza Clifford is a graphic designer, printmaker, and multidisciplinary artist. Her work focuses on fantastical and odd narratives located in mundane environments and explores ideas of gender, freedom, and how identities are constructed (and destructed). Eliza likes to work and experiment with new processes and materials to add unique, textural qualities to the work. Some processes/materials she likes to use include cyanotype, collage, flocking, paper dying, and gold leaf.
