Crossing disciplines can be a way to invigorate the creative process. What can artists gain by kicking off a project through a writing prompt? In this workshop, we’ll first explore a creative writing exercise. Then we’ll use the text or parts of the text we have written, responding to it and engaging with it, to create a piece of art (or a mock-up for a larger piece of art) in our sketchbooks adding elements of drawing and collage. This exercise is not meant to produce finished work but rather to serve as a springboard for experimentation and exploration. You’ll be able to repeat or alter the exercise on your own. Bring your own sketchbook or blank book (8x10 or larger is best), scissors, tape, a collection of your favorite drawing/writing utensils. This is a follow-up class to Inside the Blank Book: Beyond Sketching workshop that was offered in the summer, but you do not need to have taken that class to register.
All levels welcome
