Pop-up books enthrall and amaze the viewer by combining a fascinating mix of art and paper engineering. While these creations can be incredibly complex, many of the techniques used in creating the movable magic are simple to learn and, with practice, can be used alone or in combination to create fun interactivity that truly “elevates" your paper projects.
In this three hour class, you will learn how pop up elements can be used in different ways to ultimately tell a story, reveal a secret, or lend a third dimension of shape and shadow to a 2-dimensional artwork. The class will cover four different basic pop up structures used in paper engineering by first making them with plain card stock templates. You willthen have the opportunity to turn these building blocks into your own artful creations. Pyramid will have all the tools and supplies needed as well as plenty of collage materials available. Students are encouraged to bring their own favorite bits of ephemera, photographs, or copies of their original art to personalize their pop ups. If you have favorite tools that you enjoy working with such as scissors, glue, or other art supplies, feel free to bring them.
All levels welcome!
